Someone Dropped Off a Box With A Skull Inside at a Vegas Police Station in 1972

The local press only offered a glancing mention of this bizarre story. (Las Vegas-Clark County Library District/LVRJ)

A man walked into a Las Vegas police station with a package in his hands on the afternoon of April 19, 1972. The unidentified man left the box addressed to the department’s homicide division with the desk sergeant, and then he left the building.

The box left by the stranger contained a human skull encrusted in sand and dirt on the crown. This is a truly bizarre occurrence, and we were unable to locate any additional information on whether police ever identified whose head was in the box.

Apparently it was a wild time in 1970’s indeed if a stranger delivering a head in a box to the police warranted only a glancing mention in the local paper.
